Dreaming of Disney World

Cinderella castle

Recently there was some speculation in the Malaysian press regarding plans to set up a Disney theme park in Malaysia.

When I was a kid, it was my dream to visit the Walt Disney World in Florida. Sad to say, that dream has remained unfulfilled till today. Of course, there is a Disney World just across the Channel in Paris but there is nothing like the real deal in the US.

Was looking around on the net and came across this site selling Disney World Tickets as well as tickets to other central Florida attractions. DWTickets.com are based out of Orlando and is one of the most respected and reputable ticketing companies.

They have one of the largest selection of discount Disney tickets, Universal studios. and other Florida attractions.

Check out their site for more info.

Reached Flickr limit

I finally hit the Flickr 200 pictures limit. This doesn't mean that I will not be able to load any more pictures onto my account. Only that, my photostream views will be limited to the 200 most recent images. I deleted some of the pics I didn't really like but that's a short term measure.

Now I am seriously wondering whether to upgrade to a Pro Account, which costs US$24.95 a year. This comes with a:
* Unlimited uploads (10MB per photo)
* Unlimited storage
* Unlimited bandwidth
* Unlimited photosets
* Permanent archiving of high-resolution original images
* The ability to replace a photo
* Post any of your photos in up to 60 group pools
* Ad-free browsing and sharing

I am quite happy to learn from their FAQs that if I "blogged a photo and it no longer appears in your list, it will still appear on your blog, and the photo's Flickr page will still work just fine."

Just another warning: If your free account is inactive for 90 consecutive days, it will be deleted.

Remote access your PC

Have you ever faced a situation where you were away from your home or office and suddenly needed the information stored in your PC?

I have faced this situation several times and you can't even ask a friend to send the information over to you because it was already after office hours.

There are a few solutions out there but the best seems to be RemotePC Remote Access, which allows you to access your Internet enabled home or office computer from anywhere, securely and easily. This can be in less than 5 seconds because it doesn't involve lengthy applet downloads.

Access is accomplished by the interaction of two software, namely, RemotePC Host (installed on the computer which you want to access remotely) and RemotePC Viewer (installed on the computer in front of you).

Plans start at $4.95/Month. However, in case you want to try it out first before you buy, you can download the software for a 30 day free trial. The advanced features include desktop sharing with up to 10 users, remote printing, file and folder transfers.

Leading online backup service

I am sure many of you must have gone through the pain of losing valuable files after your computer crashed. Had one particular painful experience when my old computer just died leaving a blue screen - the blue screen of death. The hard drive was damaged and I lost all my research data and a lot of documents including the soft copy of my MBA theses.

Wish I had backup system in place then. Searched on the net and I have identified some of the leading online backup services. They allow you to back up your files and data on their servers which you can then download from anywhere.

If you are using such a service, I would love to hear your experiences.

Don't take the risk of not backing up your data. You might regret it later. I have already learnt my lesson so I hope you won't learn it the hard way.

Alcohol and the youth

Channel 4 is fast becoming my favourite channel here in the UK. They have so many interesting documentaries.

Today morning there was this documentary called "Booze: A Young Person's Guide" on one major problem in the UK. I am sure you must have guessed it from the title.

It was not really shocking for me to see young people boozing away like there's no tomorrow because I went through that phase myself. Was just an inch away from becoming an alcoholic during my undergraduate days in University. We drank alcohol to enjoy ourselves and that meant getting dead drunk.

I no longer drink and haven't touched anything alcoholic for a little more than 6 years now. No more beers, whiskey, vodka or even an alcopop for me. I don't care when you try to convince me that "it contains only 1% alcohol". Never for me means NEVER!

Coming back to the documentary, what was shocking for me was watching kids as young as 16 drinking hard liquor, which had been bought by their parents.

A BBC report reveals that "alcohol causes more problems amongst teenagers than any illegal drug".

The documentary also points out that half of all date rapes are alcohol related. Something which an earlier BBC report had warned about.
