Is God green?

This Monday there was this very interesting documentary on Channel 4. Presented by Mark Dowd, the documentary "God is Green" seeks to find out why leaders of the World's major faiths are saying so little on a very important issue facing the Earth today, namely Climate change.

It was really sad to see that most of the religious leaders approached by him didn't really seem to be concerned. For some it's inevitable - "the end of the world is coming". Other's blamed the west.

FYI, it will be repeated on Monday 5th March at midnight.

Flowers for my love

Today is Valentine's day and I hope you have not forgotten to buy something for your loved ones.

Not wanting to take a chance, yesterday evening around 8pm, I excused myself from the house and quickly drove to the nearby Tesco.

They had a lot of flowers but none that I really liked - and most were overpriced. My wife loves Stargazer lilies but there were none there. In the end I bought a bouquet of half dozen roses and another bouquet of mixed flowers. I thought of hiding it till tomday but there was no way I could, so I just passed them to my wife. Rahil looked at me with expectant eyes asked me "where's mine Baba?" She was so happy when I passed her the bunch of roses.

For those not married or away from your loved ones, you could always send roses. No matter what people say, roses remain the best symbol of love.

Introduction to Criteo AutoRoll

Just doing some Beta testing for a new blog roll called Criteo AutoRoll.

You might be wondering what's new or different about this blogroll.

Well, this widget displays links to blogs my readers are visiting the most often. They will trace the number of visits of each unique reader on each blog that has installed AutoRoll. The more often a reader visits a specific blog, the greater his affinity is with the blog.

I am sure you are wondering about the benefits like I was.

According to Jean-Baptiste Rudelle, CEO of Criteo RITEO, first of all, you will have a blog roll, based on other readers with similar reading habits. Secondly, you will also have highly qualified incoming traffic for your blog, comprising of new readers with a strong affinity with your blog.

Try it out and tell me what you think.

You can also check out their blog for news on the latest developments.

Note: It will take few days after you install the widgit before your displayed blog roll is fully relevant.

Teenage debt

Just read this really worrying news in the money news section of the Lombard Direct website.

According to the report, 50% of teenagers in the UK will be in debt by the time they turn 17. This was the part of the findings of a poll carried out by the Personal Finance Education Group (pfeg). Another finding which really surprised me was that "one in 20 young people in the UK think they do not have to ever pay back money borrowed on a credit card".

Are they really that stupid?

By the way, Lombard Direct is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. It was established in 1995 and is one of the largest and most respected financial institutions in the UK.

Simple is boring

Þæs ofereode,þisses swa mæg!

It's very old English phrase, which translates into "That went by, so can this."

Anyway, was going through this site called Take More Risks by Matt, a 23 years old blogger.

The site design is really plain. I am a believer in simple designs too but plain is simply boring. He's definitely not going too win any web design prizes in the near future unless he does something.

Maybe what the site needs are some nice images to brighten it up a bit and maybe a nice logo instead of the present plain one.

He wrote a post about having too many categories on his blog, but I couldn't see any categories when I visited. Maybe he has taken them down.

Having said that, site has some interesting topics but many of the posts are way too long and I am not sure whether anyone has the patience to go through them entirely. Unless you are a geek like me who likes to read long posts, I don't think this blog is going to bring back a lot of repeat visitors.

Might come back again.

My template is based on (and heavily modified from) Nonzero1.0 by NodeThirtyThree Design.

Even though I have moved to the new Blogger, still retaining my Classic template for obvious reasons. Planning to work on a XML template later on but till then, I am quite happy with the present template.

Feel free to look at the source code of my blog.

in case you are interested in converting your old template to the new Blogger beta, you might want to check out this post on Singpolyma.

Hackosphere has a number of great Widgits that you can add to your blog.

Happy blogging.
