Introducing Doris

It's amazing how the Internet has made it easier to get in touch with people from different countries and cultures from all around the World.

Doris Chua is a Singaporean blogger whom I got to know through the web. In her own words, she's a "Stay-at-home and Work-at-home mum". Her main blog titled Life..Passion..Travel & More... shares her personal experiences with us.

She's got three other blogs: Our First New Zealand Trip, Home Office Women Blog
and Organics and Health Blog.

Go and check out her sites.

Designed for Men

There are number of fashion blogs on the web. However, most of these blogs are dedicated to ladies' fashion. This is probably due to the fact that most of these blogs are run by lady bloggers.

That doesn't mean that guys are not interested in wearing nice clothes or looking fashionable. Today's successful men (not limited to metrosexual males) know that the right clothes and accessories can be a embodiment of your personality. It tells the World who you are.

It's amazing that there are very few blogs covering this particular segment of the market. Along comes, Belisi's Sharp by Design Blog, dedicated to Men's fashion. According to them, this blog is directed to the progressive urban man who wants to learn about fashion staples, as well as stay tuned in to emerging trends in casual wear and business attire.

International row over TV show

People are protesting on the streets in India over a UK TV show and causing a diplomatic row between the two countries. It has also been raised in the British Parliament.

The whole fuss is over the alleged racism towards Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty by her British housemates on the UK reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother.

Channel 4 denies the 'racism' allegations. I agree that there is a case of clash of cultures. However, even though they might deny it, the actions and words of some of the housemates reek of racism and there is no excuse for that short of thing.

One good thing that has come out of this issue is that more viewers are tuning into this show, which is of course a good thing for the TV channel and the sponsors. They definitely benefits from this kind of exposure despite their threat to quit the show. And of course we love anything controversial. Even my wife who used to complain that the show "is so boring" is presently glued in front of the idiot box watching it as I write this.

Find new and used cars

When you are looking to buy a car, either new or used, what method do you use?
I expect most of you to reply, "Car Classifieds".

There are a number of online auto classifieds out there on the web. Lemonfree.com is one of them. However, what makes it different from other sites it that it's online classifieds are 100% free. Yes that's right. They enable users in the US and Canada, to list their new and used cars and trucks for free.

As usual, you have to fill up a few required information about your car. The great part is that you are allowed to post up to ten pictures of your automobile. Most sites allow only one or two pictures. You are also allowed to write as many words as you require to describe your vehicle. That's good for people who really love their car and want to write paragraphs and paragraphs in praise. Well! Now that I think about it, that is probably not a good idea.

I really like their car reviews, which is quite extensive. To go there, click the text link or click here.

So if you are looking for a car or truck, you can go over to the site and search by Make, Model, Year, Country, Price and Mileage.

The Motivation in Our Life

"Seek to do good, and you will find that happiness will run after you."

James Freeman Clarke

Speech recognition software

I would love to have a Speech recognition software enabled on my computer, which would enable me to carry out hands-free computing. Just imagine how easy it would be for me to open programs and even write my blog posts without using the keyboard or mouse.

It's not science fiction, the technology is actually already here. These systems are also not only about computing. You may not realise it but we are already using these applications in our everyday life. These include voice dialling on our mobile phones. For example, I just have to press a button and say my wife's name to call her on my mobile phone. Some companies are using simple data entry programs to automatically record your data (such as a credit card number) through the phone.

However, I feel that these technologies have benefited the disabled and visually impaired persons the most. They have enabled a lot of them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.

Sometime back, I once tried out a dictation software which converted my spoken words into words. However, it made so many mistakes and I would have to edit it all over. In the end, I just removed the software. Now, I learn that that people are working on more sophisticated programs that will "remember" your voice and adjust to your accent.

Nuance.com is the largest supplier in the World. Among their big clients is AT&T. The company is using speech automation software from Nuance to automate its new 1-800-YellowPages (1-800-935-5697) Directory Assistance (DA) service.

One very popular desktop product for PC from Nuance is their Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9. It allows you to send e-mails and instant messages, surf the web, create documents - by just speaking into a microphone connected to your computer. The company claims that it is "up to 99% accurate, and often more accurate than typing". Their most astounding claim is that "it actually gets smarter the more you use it!"

You can actually try out the demo on their site. It's pretty amazing.

Egg with two yolks

My daughter was hungry and she wanted the fried "O" eggs, meaning sunny side up.

Heated up the non stick pan and put some olive oil. Took one egg from the fridge and open it up.

Egg
It was the first time in my life that I have ever come across an egg with two yolks.

They are free-range eggs but I don't know whether these eggs were fertile. Wonder what would have happened if the eggs had hatched.
